Much to be grateful for, hard to know where to begin

1. God

2. The wonderful, friendly hardworking people I talked to during my visit to the college, especially Dolores who was my guide

3. Carol L, for her encouraging words on the phone (and in person) and when she said ” I would procrastinate and put things off for tomorrow because I didn’t believe in today.”

4. Laughing with Cassie as things (or at least the house) seem to be crumbling about us

5. Relaxation and breathing

6. Energy coming from somewhere beyond me, at the right time

7. More friends and support than i can count or acknowledge

8. Celebrating my mother’s birthday with her

9. this beautiful poem by Julie, simple and powerful, an expression of her making changes which helps me in mine

10. This also beautiful poem by Elizabeth Bishop which leaves me speechless and has so many sides to it, along with extraordinary imagery

11. The cement mixer driving in front of me, on the back was the word “Advance” (a sign?)

12. “this fragile earth, our island home”

  1. hi Garrett: once again i am blown away by your talent of powerful writing. Love the poems! and i think we are often, often spoken to in splendid ways! Love the irony of a cement truck containing the word “Advance”
thank you for your list !!!!

  2. Garrett,
    What a list.
It sounds like life is pointing you somewhere. I am not aware of your circumstances, but I do know that we know when we know, and many times that knowing comes from symbols such as cement trucks with “advance’ written across them. And, I love the line from Carol L. That is one powerful statement.
I am grateful for the inclusion of my poem in your list. Quite an honor.
    Many blessings,
    Julie
