I’m grateful that my parents’ house has sold, and quickly. He and Mom bought that house 36 years ago, almost to the day.
I’m grateful that my dad is no longer a homeowner, and that he no longer has that care on his shoulders.
I’m grateful for all the years we lived there.
I’m grateful for all the memories we created there, of home and family and children growing into adults and having their own children. For all the things that a home sees – laughter and tears and misunderstandings and moments of enlightenment. They make us who we are.
I’m grateful that some lovely people fell in love with it. I wish them many years of happiness as they build their life in it.
I’m grateful that we can all move on – dad, us “kids”, the new owners, the neighborhood – move on to the next chapter, whatever that might be.
Karen, you are so gracious in your words of the sale of the house that has meant so much to all of you. I am so glad that the new owners will appreciate it and make new and wonderful memories in it. Your spirits will always be there, no matter what — that’s what makes older homes so wonderful!
Thanks, Carol! The process has been bittersweet and exciting and challenging. But the time is right.
Karen, I can so relate to your house experience. We had the same type of event…it seemed so strange to walk thru the house as the last thing and see it without furniture, etc. Our family had lived there for many many years. But we moved on and we were able to talk with the new owner a few months later who expressed his appreciation for his family being able to have and enjoy their new home. I know the house was always blessed and will give them abundant blessings as well. I extend my wishes to you and your family for peace and joy in your new beginnings. Blessings, Jean
Thanks for your wishes, Jean. It will be very strange to drive past that house and not pull in the driveway.
But that’s ok. Whenever I’ve sold a house, I leave a small housewarming gift and card for the new owners. I did that with this house, too. It seems like the right thing to extend a welcome and express my gratitude to the new owners.
