My mother-in-law (Helen) was an interesting and talented person……all 5 ft. of her. She was raised on a farm with four brothers.
Thank you, Carol, for reminding me of Helen when you mentioned the red plaid flannel shirts in your list today! Helen made my husband and I red plaid flannel shirts. She was an accomplished seamstress and made beautiful clothing..suits, coats, etc.
She was the BEST cook ever!!!!!! Ever!!!!
She and fil had two huge beautiful gardens and she canned food that will undoubtedly not be equaled.
She had a 30-30 rifle and hunted deer and elk
She fished and her secret for catching them was a bar of ivory soap in her tackle box to make sure her hands were washed before baiting her hook.
She made dandelion wine and home brew that…I was told…would knock your socks off :)
She and fil would backpack into the mountain wilderness for many miles.
She loved music and when a song began she’d challenge us to say the name of it before she could.
She was intelligent and a woman’s woman who could hold her own with the guys at a time in history when “a woman’s place was in the home”…she would gladly take a theoretical trip down the rabbit hole with you.

I adored my mother-in-law too, for different reasons — most of all because she and my FIL taught me by example the true meaning of unconditional love! I learned from them how to truly love my husband and how I wanted to raise my kids. It’s amazing to me that you are G-Ma, and so am I, and you called your mother-in-law, MIL and that’s what my daughter-in-law calls me. I really appreciated your tribute to your MIL and most especially that it shows how much you recognized her specialness while she was living. Hooray!

What a rebel she was. Stepping up and out of the traditional women’s role. She had to be mighty with 4 brothers and only 5ft.
My mother in law was 4’11” tops and raised 4 sons. She definitely wasn’t a good cook but a wonderful woman. I miss her so much.
