historical fun

Recently the Montana House of Representatives re-enacted issues of 100 years ago:

  • Some wore old suits, wigs, ties and hats from the past.
  • Presented issues that were before the 1913 legislature:
  • “setting a minimum wage for women”
  • “whether to permit the use of automobiles in Yellowstone National Park”
  • “set the penalty for the crime of seduction”
  • “regulations of dance halls at summer resorts”
  • “approving a general fund budget of $1.9million”
  • There is a Charles Russell painting, “Lewis & Clark Meeting the Indians at Ross’ Hole” which takes up most of the wall behind the speaker podium in the House…and Charlie Russell “personally” thanked the people of MT and his Native friends for letting him paint the mural.
