Mountains

This week has put mountains in my path. First my sister who faces a long road to recovery and I must accompany her.

Now my daughter has broken up with her significant other and we moved her things home last night. It is her mountain but I see it, I feel it and to an extent I scale it.

There is a funny thing about mountains. You can come upon them suddenly or you can see them in the distance. But they are still mountains.

The view from a mountain is different from the view below. At some point I will reach the summit.

You wonder- how I am going to get up there or down from there but step by step you navigate.

Inch by inch life’s a cinch. Yard by yard life’s hard.

I have to remember not to think too far ahead. Baby steps. M.E.

LucyAnn gave me a tiny mountain with little polar bears ad an Eskimo. no bigger than a nickel. A balm to my soul that she would think of me. A peaceful feeling that there is more life than my chaotic world.

So I survey the mountains, make my way across one, watch my daughter as she begins her ascent and wait for the glorious verdant valley on the other side.

  1. Mary ellen,
So elegant in spite of it all! Our children tug at our hearts and we want them to be healthy and happy, regardless of age or location. You are guided and loved deeply; one day at a time.
    Love Rose

  2. Poetic, even in stress. Wishing you lots of strength for your treks & a beautiful view from that summit when you reach it.
