Christmas Eve Snow

Very grateful for~

God’s extravagant gift to us

full-serve gas stations
warm banana bread
Hugs

getting excited, actually waking up early to see if it had snowed
Snow!
Big Flakes gently falling
It is the falling I am grateful for, not the sticking
The perseverance of those who will arrive despite the sticking

Winter came down to our home one night
Quietly pirouetting in on silvery-toed slippers of snow;
And we, we were children once again. ~ Bill Morgan, Jr.

Nutmeg and Lighted Snow Globes

Very grateful for~

God’s Abundance
Tempering expectations

Gettinglost in reading
Snapping out of it just before the banana bread burned

freshly grated nutmeg— a first for me
Getting cured at the dentist
Lighted snow globes
Prayer
How hot tea in the mug warms my fingers then my hands

Finally I am coming to the conclusion that my highest ambition is to be what I already am. That I will never fulfill my obligation to surpass myself unless I first accept myself, and if I accept myself fully in the right way, I will already have surpassed myself. ~Ingrid Mathieu

Walking with Dvorak

Very grateful for~

Allowing myself, on this significant day from my past, to indulge in one guilty pleasure
textures
pictures of the ocean
voicemail
Dvorak Symphony #9 Adagio
Sheldon Cooper
Bookmarks
long walks to the post office mailbox
this shortest day (thanks Jean!)

And that is fine with me, because the great thing about wandering around in the fog is that you never know what you might run into. ~ Billie Coffey

Success and Surrender

Very grateful for~

God’s answered prayers
gifts in disguise
surrender
momentum
crushed candy canes in vanilla yogurt
Donna’s surgery was a success!
finding an unused amazon gift card
pound cake
lighting tiny candles

Gratitude is such a simple thing but we often overlook it in our search for the answer to what troubles us. ~Andrea Olson

Happy Birthday Amelia!

Very grateful for~

God’s gift of a daughter
Amelia’s birthday today
letting my mind wander
having warm soup in the morning
remembering to rest before it is forced upon me by illness
sitting in the space between quitting and letting go, between goodbye and farewell…And the healing needed within it all
Progress. It is happening. I may not see it yet. It may not look the way that I imagine or expect… But it is happening nonetheless.
not pushing so hard
not focusing so much on the outcome

I wonder if the way to approach the things that seem fraught with difficulty is to simply be kind and gentle to ourselves. ~Andrea Olson

Integrity Pivots

Very grateful for~

~~God’s provision
~~all of the people who write lists on WLD and their commitment to giving thanks
~~the balance brought by answers of “no”
~~people whose gift is teaching with words
~~sitting within the space of wanting to give up and seeing how much more I can take
~~a realization that it is OK to leave things behind
~~refusing the label of “quitter” but realizing that it is ok to quit some things that are not worth finishing or are not in    integrity with my soul
~~the inner propulsion to move onto the next thing
~~the excitement terror stunned attention of receiving a pivotal phone call (which I did not pick up) right at the moment of this realization

The reason you stop when you do: you got what you came for. Only you will know what you came for and whether you’ve gotten it. ~ Barbara Sher and Andrea Olson

Pep Talks and dumplings

Forgiveness

a long talk with Beth on her birthday

saying “yes” to what happens to me

and saying “thank you”

rainy, gray mornings

time to write and send Christmas cards

chicken and dumplings

lights and candles

Amelia’s pep talks to me

Within you there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself. ~Hermann Hesse

Very grateful for~

My childhood friend Beth’s birthday today

Christy’s good news

I am one day closer to  inevitable good news

Maybe my good news is in this moment, instead of in the future

A possible new project

Crock pots

Uncluttered counters and tables

One of the first things we have to let go of is not being able to let go of anybody. ~ Merrit Malloy
